The air cooled oil coolers are designed to dissipate heat from the oil of generator Transformer, Distribution Transformer, Smoothing Reactors and Locomotive Transformers.

Specially designed internal turbulators are provided for effective heat transfer from the viscous oil.

DOUBLE TUBE HEAT EXCHANGER
 
Design:
 
This design of annular tube construction has the following features:
   Prevents water leaking into oil stream.
   Allows automatic seepage of leaked water.
   Alarm and indication in event of water leakage.
 
Construction:

The inner tube made of Cupro-nickel material is expanded into outer tube sheet facing the water surface. The outer tube which is press fit on the inner tube is of copper material have and longitudinal grooves along the length on the inner side circumferentially. The outer surface of these tubes have integral low fins for enhancement of heat transfer on the oil side and is expanded into the inner tube sheet.

The leaked water is collected in the recess provided between the outer and inner tube Sheet. Once filled, the water is sensed by the water leakage probe provided at the bottom and signal / alarm is indicated on the controller unit mounted on the shell of the cooler. The leaked water can then be drained out from the drain plug. This feature ensures safety to the transformer unlike the conventional oil cooler where oil and water mixing takes place in the event of leakage.
